Classes FAQs
My child is going into fourth grade. Should I sign them up for Explore Robotics or Challenge Robotics?
Fourth graders are eligible for either program, and beginners are welcome in both. The best choice depends on your child’s interests, maturity, and readiness for a more structured competition experience.
Explore Robotics may be the better fit if your child:
- Most enjoys creative LEGO building
- Is interested in adding motors, sensors, and coding to a team model
- Would benefit from a shorter class and a less demanding season
- Is still developing confidence with teamwork and presenting ideas
Challenge Robotics may be the better fit if your child:
- Is excited about building and programming a robot to complete missions and score points
- Is ready to help with an Innovation Project and speak with judges
- Can stay engaged during a two-hour class
- Is prepared for regular attendance and the commitment of a competition team
Previous robotics experience is not required for Challenge. If you are still unsure which program would be the best fit, please email us before registering.
Will my child’s team compete against other robotics teams in Louisiana?
Students who enroll in FLL Challenge competition robotics classes will compete against other robotics teams in the state at a local qualifier in December. Teams may advance to the State Championship at Jesuit High School in January.
When is the last day that I can enroll my child?
The last day that you can enroll your child for one of our classes is four weeks after the start day. Late registrants (those who start after session 1) will only be admitted if there is a spot on an existing team in the class or if there are enough late registrants to start a new team.
How do payment plans work?
When you register, you can choose to pay the registration fee and the total tuition upfront, or you can pay the registration fee and set up a payment plan.
With a payment plan, your tuition is split into monthly payments automatically charged to your credit card every 30 days. The first payment is due 30 days after registration. Each class has a payment deadline, which is the first day of the last month of the class. The number of payments depends on how many 30-day periods fall before this deadline. The earlier you register, the lower your monthly payment will be!
For example, suppose on June 15 you register for a class that runs from August to December and the tuition is $375. The payment deadline for tuition is December 1. You will have five monthly payments of $75 (around July 15, August 15, September 15, October 15, and November 15), so the full amount is paid by December 1.
If you register for the same class on August 15, you will have three monthly payments (around September 15, October 15, November 15) of $125 each.
If you have any questions or need special payment arrangements, please email us at info@stemandroboticscenter.com. We’re happy to discuss payment plan options with you.
What if I need to withdraw my child?
If you need to withdraw your child from classes, please send a written request to info@stemandroboticscenter.com. Our cancellation and refund policy varies based on when we receive your request.
Cancellation Requests Received:
- At Least 3 Weeks Prior to the Start of a Session:
- You will receive a refund of any fees paid, minus a 10% processing fee.
- Alternatively, you can choose to apply 100% of the fees paid as a credit toward future classes and events.
- You will not be responsible for any tuition payments.
- Fewer Than 3 Weeks Prior to the Start of a Session:
- Any fees paid, minus the first month’s tuition, will be applied as a credit toward future classes and events.
- Once a Session Has Begun:
- Due to the collaborative nature of our programs, we cannot honor cancellation requests after the session has started.
- You will be responsible for the full tuition amount regardless of attendance.
- Registration fees are non-refundable and cannot be applied to future events and classes.
How do I apply for a scholarship?
Scholarships are available through The STEM and Robotics Center through our registration provider, Activity Hero. Scholarships are available for those who meet income requirements and are available on a first-come, first-served basis. For more information on scholarships, please visit Activity Hero’s website.
Do I have to use a credit card to register and pay tuition?
ActivityHero requires a credit card to register online, but we’re happy to offer an alternative if you prefer not to use one.
To register without a credit card, please email us at info@stemandroboticscenter.com to make payment arrangements and manually register your child. We’ll work with you directly to complete the registration.
You may drop off or mail a check or cash for the registration fee to:
The STEM and Robotics Center
61 Park Place Dr., Ste. D
Covington, LA 70433
Payment must be received within one week of registration or before the first day of class, whichever comes first, to hold your child’s spot.
Monthly tuition can also be paid by check or cash at the first class of each month, but all payment arrangements must be made via email in advance.
Summer Camp FAQs
When choosing a camp, do I use my child's grade level from last school year or the upcoming school year?
Please use your child’s grade level in the upcoming school year.
What should my child bring with them each day for camp?
First and foremost, campers should bring a positive attitude! They should bring a water bottle, lunch, snacks, and any medications they may need. Due to our one-room space and that we have many students with severe food allergies, please refrain from sending your child with highly allergic foods, such as peanuts and tree nuts.
Do you offer before- or after-care?
At this time, we do not have options for before- or after-care.
How early can I drop my child off for camp?
We ask that parents drop their kids off for camp no earlier than 8:50 am.
What should I do if I'm running late to pick up my child?
Traffic happens! If you’ll be more than 10 minutes late to pick up your child, please call us at 985-234-9188 to let us know. A late fee in the amount of $1/minute will be assessed after 3:10.
I signed my child up for camp, but now I need to cancel their registration. What is your cancellation policy?
If you choose to withdraw your child from camp, you must do so in writing to info@stemandroboticscenter.com. Our cancellation and refund policy differs depending on when the cancellation request is received.
- If you cancel your registration at least one week before the start of the camp, you can apply the funds to a future event or request a refund of the amount paid less a 10% processing fee.
- If you cancel your registration less than one week before the start of the camp, the funds will be applied to a future event.
- Once a camp has started, no refunds of any kind will be processed.
Do you offer payment plans for camp registration fees?
We sure do! When you enroll your child, you have the option of paying in full or paying an $100 deposit. If you pay the deposit, the remaining balance will automatically be charged to your credit/debit card 30 days before the start of the camp. However, if you register for camp less than 30 days before the start of camp, you will be required to pay the entire camp fee in full upon registration.
Can I register for summer camp without using a credit card?
Yes. While ActivityHero requires a credit card for online registration, we’re happy to offer a manual registration option for families who prefer to pay by cash or check.
To register without a credit card, please email us at info@stemandroboticscenter.com to make payment arrangements and manually enroll your child.
You may drop off or mail your payment to:
The STEM and Robotics Center
61 Park Place Dr., Ste. D
Covington, LA 70433
A nonrefundable down payment is due within one week of registration to hold your child’s spot. The remaining balance is due either 30 days before the camp begins or within one week of registration, whichever comes first.
All payment arrangements must be made via email in advance.
Do you offer any discounts off the camp registration fee?
All students should be able to attend camp, so The STEM and Robotics Center has graciously offered a scholarship with discounted tuition for each camp session. These scholarships are available on a first-come, first-served basis for families who meet certain income requirements. To apply for these scholarships, just add the scholarship to your cart and follow the prompts. It may mention “Houston” as the nearest location, and that is correct. All communication regarding scholarships will be through email with Activity Hero as we do not process scholarship applications in-house. These scholarships are the only discounts we currently offer for summer camps.
What is your behavior policy?
At the STEM and Robotics Center, participants will be taught about Gracious Professionalism, Coopertition, and the six Core Values of FIRST: Discovery, Teamwork, Inclusion, Innovation, Impact, and Fun. If your child continually disregards these values, are disrespectful to others, or negatively impact the learning experiences of others, they may be asked to leave and not return to the session. If your child is asked to not return, no payments will be refunded. During activities, participants will be expected to treat all equipment and materials with respect. If your child’s behavior results in equipment or materials being damaged in any way, you may be held responsible for the cost of repairs or replacement.
The STEM and Robotics Center offers after-school and homeschool robotics classes, weekend STEM nights, and STEM summer camps for students in Pre-K through 8th grade. We also offer homeschool math and science classes for students in grades 6 and up.
